#MusicMonday Music Scholarships for H.S. Students Grades 9-12

There are many scholarships available for students that want to major in music in college. Colleges and universities have their own scholarships as well as specicified dates for auditions and application deadlines. I urge you to be organized and fast in seeking those opportunities out. In the interim, here are a few more scholarships that are independent and could be helpful for your child.

The Young Musicians Foundation – (40) $1,000 scholarships annually

The Young Musicians Foundation offers music scholarships for musicians age 9-25. With 40 scholarships of $1,000 each, offered in various categories for various instruments as well as vocalists, there is something for everyone here.

The Glenn Miller Birthplace Society – $4,000, $2,000, and $1,000

The Glenn Miller Birthplace Society offers three scholarships to both vocalists and instrumentalists. A scholarship of $4,000, $2,000, and $1,000 is offered in each category. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or a college freshman.

The BMI Foundation – $1,000 or more

The BMI Foundation offers 20 different scholarship programs, many honoring music icons such as Woody Guthrie and John Lennon. These programs are available to a wide range of students and musicians.

The Bel Canto Opera Scholarship Program – Amounts vary

Offering vital financial support to young singers for a quarter of a century, the Bel Canto Opera Scholarship is open to young opera students.

CBC Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship 

Application Deadlines: May 01, Annually

Ladies of the Podium Scholarship 

Application Deadlines: December 01, Annually
The Ladies of the Podium scholarships are endowed for the Women Band Directors International by Betty Jo and Kathy Schmidt. Women who are studying band music education at the undergrad or graduate level are encouraged to apply for one of four $500 scholarships. Scholarship deadline is December 1st of each year. Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award – From the Top Scholarship
Each year approximately 20 young musicians (ages 8-18) are selected for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. Applicants must be pre-collegiate classical musicians between the ages of 8 and 18 who demonstrate a high level of musical achievement and financial need.

JEN (Jazz Education Network)

JEN offers several scholarships; application criteria and forms are on the JEN website (see navigation bar at the top of their site for the link).  Annual deadline for applications is September 30th.

John Lennon Scholarships
For young songwriters, ages 15 through 24, working in any genre. John Lennon Endowed Program for Performing Arts, Music, Communications, Mass Media Arts. Information typically updated in September.

John Philip Sousa Foundation
National Young Artists Solo Competition. For high school students on French horn, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, and saxophone. Scholarship given in each instrumental category to students who will be performance or music education majors.
